Payton Pritchard’s wedding had a strong Celtics presence: Celtics guard Payton Pritchard has had quite the summer, helping his team win a championship via half-court shots, celebrating with the rest of the city, and now tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend Emma MacDonald at Wychmere Beach Club on Cape Cod.
The wedding was well-attended by Pritchard’s Celtics past and present teammates, with the list including Jaylen Brown, Oshae Brissett, Blake Griffin, Lamar Stevens, Neemias Queta, Sam Hauser, Jaden Springer, and Svi Mykhailiuk.
According to Adrienne Gaffney of Elle Magazine, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla and team co-owner Wyc Grousbeck were also in attendance (as was the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy).
Griffin notably officiated the ceremony, with Brown sharing a short video clip on his social media.
“Yesterday was amazing,” Brown captioned, “congrats to my brother P rabbit.”
In the video, Griffin, who was Pritchard’s Boston teammate during the 2022-2023 season, is heard making a joke about his impersonation of the groom.
“At no point tonight am I allowed to do my impersonation of Payton,” Griffin can be heard explaining in the video clip. “So don’t come to up to me when Payton’s not around and ask me to do it.”

MacDonald told Gaffney that Griffin was a presence in their lives from early in their relationship.
“He was there since our third date,” she recalled. “He was Payton’s go-to guy when we started talking. He was playing in Dallas a couple days later, so I flew there and he was texting Blake, nervous, being like, ‘What should I do? Should I ask her if she wants her own hotel room?’
“Blake was this guy being like, ‘Yeah, this is what you should do,’ helping him out. Then that night, he third-wheeled our date. I got to talking with Blake and he was like, ‘Oh, I know this is the girl for Payton. He’s going to marry her right away.’ Six months after we met, we got engaged. Blake has been there since the start.”
Trivia: Payton Pritchard was one of three Celtics’ first-round picks in 2020. Can you name the other two?
(Answer at the bottom.)
Hint: One (who went to college at Vanderbilt) was eventually traded to the Pacers, while the other (who went to TCU) was quickly traded to the Grizzlies (where he went on to become NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2021).
Scores and schedules:
The Red Sox lost to the Astros 10-2 on Sunday as Houston completed the three-game sweep.
Boston gets a chance to rebound quickly, welcoming the Rangers to Fenway Park for the start of another series tonight at 7:10 p.m.
The Paris Olympics concluded on Sunday, with the United States winning the final medal count on a tiebreaker with China. The Paris hosts closed out the proceedings by handing off the Olympic flag to Los Angeles, which will host the next Summer Games in 2028.
Later this week, the Patriots will first host the Eagles for joint practices, and then face Philadelphia at Gillette Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the second of three preseason games on the schedule.

Paris handed off the Olympics to Los Angeles via Tom Cruise: The Hollywood star took the Olympic flag off of French hands in the most American way possible. He entered by dropping in from the roof, and exited on a motorcycle.

A random Kevin Garnett story: NBA center Steven Adams, who is Australian, recently explained that he escaped the trash talk of then-Celtics forward Kevin Garnett as a young player by humorously lying about his inability to understand the language.
On this day: In 1969, the Celtics were sold by P. Ballantine & Sons to a holding company called Trans-National Communications Inc. for a then-record sum of $6 million.
The deal would end up paining then Celtics general manager Red Auerbach, who later called Trans-National president Woody Erdman “the absolute worst” owner he ever dealt with, claiming that he had to write a personal check at one point to ensure that the Celtics’ phone lines weren’t cut off.
The deal ended several years later with Trans-National filing for bankruptcy, and the team being sold again.

Daily highlight: Just a routine level of excellence in outfield defense from Red Sox rookie Ceddanne Rafaela on Sunday.
