The Patriots and Kendrick Bourne: According to a recent report, a Kendrick Bourne-Patriots reunion isn’t off the table.

Per Andrew Callahan of The Boston Herald, the Patriots have reportedly offered the wide receiver — who is currently set to become a free agent — a new contract.

The 28-year-old originally signed with New England in 2021 on a three-year deal worth $15 million. He suffered a torn ACL in Oct. during a loss against the Dolphins, but might be able to return in time for Week 1 next season.

Bourne, according to Callahan, could draw interest from other AFC East teams should he hit the free agent market (which formally begins on March 13 with the start of the new league year).

Though he achieved a career season in 2021, Bourne’s role in the offense declined in 2022 (something he’s recently said was a mystery to him). Yet while he was resurgent in 2023, the injury cut his season short.

Speaking about the Patriots’ difficult two-year run, Bourne shared some candid thoughts in February.

“It was just two years of roughness, of kind of rebuilding, of trying to find who we were, and I think it was kind of a toxic place,” Bourne said on “The Zach Gelb Show” on CBS Sports. “People [were] pointing the fingers and things like that in the locker room. Not too bad, but you could feel the energy.”

Despite the difficulties, Bourne has also said that he would like to return to the Patriots.

Retaining Bourne would represent one step in realizing the goal of Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf, who recently told reporters that one of his offseason aims is to “weaponize the offense.”
