Jayden Daniels shared his opinion on the possibility of being drafted by the Patriots

Jayden Daniels was asked about the Patriots: As the NFL draft process rolls on, much of the conversation has centered around what teams think of the various prospects.

But what exactly do the prospects think of the teams? From a Patriots perspective, this could be potentially problematic, given the recent (bad) grades the organization received in the annual NFLPA survey of current NFL players.

Yet in the case of quarterback prospect Jayden Daniels, the surface-level answer is positive.

Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner from LSU, was asked on Friday morning about the possibility of ending up in New England via the third overall pick.

“It’d be dope,” he told reporters during a press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine. “Obviously growing up and seeing what Tom Brady did there, six Super Bowls, that’s tough to live up to.

“But it would be dope to come in there, see the success that they had, and help them get back on that track,” Daniels added.

The 23-year-old is arguably one of the more intriguing prospects in this year’s draft. He is projected to go in a wide range of picks, with some even viewing him as a possible top pick (challenging the entrenched pre-draft thought process that USC’s Caleb Williams will go first overall).

Daniels threw 57 touchdowns against just seven interceptions during his two years at LSU (having also played at Arizona State prior to that). His 2023 award-winning season was especially impressive: He passed for 3,812 yards (72.2 completion percentage) with 40 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Along with being a great passer, he also ran for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The NFL Draft gets underway on April 25.

Trivia: Like the NFL MVP Award, the Heisman Trophy has become almost completely monopolized by quarterbacks in recent years (with Daniels being the latest example). Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (now with the Eagles) was the most recent non-QB winner in 2020, but can you name the second most recent non-QB winner?

(Answer at the bottom).

Hint: He is tied with Tony Dorsett as the only two players with 99-yard rushing touchdowns in NFL history (a feat he achieved against the Jaguars in 2018).

Scores and schedules:
