Steve Belichick reportedly taking a new job: After Bill Belichick and the Patriots parted ways in January, his sons’ futures in New England were an inevitable question.

Both Steve and Brian Belichick were defensive assistants for the Patriots under their father. As of Monday morning, it appears Steve has a new gig.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Belichick has agreed to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington in 2024:

Belichick will work under newly appointed head coach Jedd Fisch, who overlapped as a member of the Patriots staff in 2020 (coaching the team’s quarterbacks).

It will be a first for Belichick, who has only worked under his father as a professional football coach.

After first joining New England as a coaching assistant in 2012, Belichick was named safeties coach in 2016. In 2019, he was promoted to calling defensive plays while occupying multiple assistant roles (most recently coaching the outside linebackers).

Trivia: What former Patriots player — a four-time Pro Bowler — was New England’s second-round pick in 1996?

Mike Vrabel’s future: NFL insider Tom Pelissero discussed what he’s heard about the former Patriots’ potential future after not getting another opportunity to be a head coach.

On this day: In 2017, the Patriots rallied from a 28-3 third quarter deficit in Super Bowl LI to pull off a miraculous 34-28 win over the Falcons. It was the first Super Bowl to go into overtime, and it ended up being the fifth championship of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.
