Greg Olsen discussed likelihood of losing lead analyst job at Fox to Tom Brady
"We knew when we took the job that Brady was there whenever he was going to decide to come."
Greg Olsen’s thoughts on Tom Brady: As Tom Brady has made clear, he intends to begin his career as a Fox Sports television analyst in 2024.
Brady, who signed an enormous 10-year, $375 million deal with the network in 2022, noted in a Tuesday interview with ESPN’s Pat McAfee that, “Next year I’m going to be calling a Super Bowl for Fox, which is going to be incredible.”
In order to make room for Brady at the top, the current lead analyst for the network’s game coverage, Greg Olsen, will likely be displaced. Exactly what that means for Olsen remains to be seen (Fox has not announced specific roles for the 2024 season).
The 38-year-old retired tight end has been praised for his performance in the role of TV analyst, and recently spoke to Joseph Person and Richard Deitsch of The Athletic about the likelihood of losing his spot to Brady.
“That’s the way it looks, from everything we’ve been told and that’s the way it’s been trending,” Olsen told Person and Deitsch. “We’ve been planning for that for two years. We knew when we took the job that Brady was there whenever he was going to decide to come.”
Olsen added that he was “damn proud of what we did for two years” with the broadcast team (which includes Kevin Burkhardt doing play-by-play and Erin Andrews as the sideline reporter).
“It’s hard to predict how all that plays out,” Olsen explained. “But my end goal is to call premiere games at the top of the ladder and that pursuit won’t change regardless of what happens this next year with my current role.”
Trivia: Greg Olsen, selected 31st overall by the Bears in 2007, ranks second among players in his draft class in career receiving yards and touchdown receptions. Who is the only player above him in those categories?
(Answer at the bottom).
Hint: A wide receiver, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

Tom Brady’s interview from Tuesday: Here’s the entire interview the former Patriots quarterback did with McAfee.
On this day: In 1997, Bill Parcells concluded his eventful four-year run as Patriots coach — which included a trip to Super Bowl XXXI — with a simple message: “I’m out.”
The tumultuous “Tuna” departure also produced one of the all-time great soundbites in Patriots history. Attempting to explain why he wanted to be head coach and also have control over player personnel decisions — a degree of power that New England was unwilling to give him — Parcells told the media, “They want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries.”
Robert Kraft, speaking in opposition, later responded by quipping, “I think our groceries are pretty good. They’re fresh.”
Parcells famously departed in acrominous circumstances for New England’s AFC East division rival: The New York Jets. The drama would resume several years later when another episode of the “border wars” culminated with Bill Belichick heading in the opposite direction back to Foxborough.
Daily highlight: Kristaps Porzingis threw it down after receiving a nice feed from Jayson Tatum in Tuesday’s win.
