Julian Edelman’s reaction to Tom Brady: At the age of 44, Tom Brady again proved he’s still able to lead his team to victory at the highest level on Thursday night.

Immersed in an unexpectedly close game against the Cowboys in the NFL season-opener, Brady orchestrated a last-second drive to put the Buccaneers in field goal position, from which point Tampa Bay kicker Ryan Succop drilled the 36-yard game-winner in a 31-29 win.

Tom Brady’s highlights from the Buccaneers’ season-opening win:

On this day: In 1999, Pedro Martinez allowed a solo home run to Yankees designated hitter Chili Davis, but nothing else. He retired every other batter he faced on his way to a complete game one-hitter.

Martinez, pitching at Yankee Stadium, recorded 17 strikeouts in what was one of the most dominant starts of his Hall of Fame career.

Daily highlight: On a night when he passed Pele to become South America’s leading all-time goalscorer in men’s competition, Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a magical goal. Messi finished with a hat trick in a 3-0 Argentina win over Bolivia.
