Walpole’s Cam Schlittler set for MLB debut for Yankees, to start Wednesday vs. Seattle

Northeastern coach Mike Glavine will be at Yankee Stadium to see Schlittler on the bump.

Walpole’s Cam Schlittler will be called up from Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make his major league debut on the mound for the Yankees on Wednesday night against Mariners righthander Logan Evans.

The 6-foot-6-inch righthander posted a 2.38 ERA with 64 strikeouts over 53 innings at Double A Somerset before his promotion. At Triple A, the former Northeastern star owns a 2-1 mark in five starts with a 3.80 ERA, giving up 20 hits and 10 earned runs in 23 innings, striking out 35 while walking only nine.

And according to Northeastern Global News, Huskies coach Mike Glavine will be at Yankee Stadium to see Schlittler on the bump.

“I can’t begin to express how proud and happy I am as a coach to see one of my former players make his MLB debut,” Glavine told NGN. “He earned this through years of grit, consistency, and dedication. It’s truly a special time for him, his family and for our Northeastern program. Moments like this are why we coach. I am so happy for him.”

Glavine said he’ll be sitting with Yankees scout Matt Hyde, who signed Schlittler after the 2022 MLB Draft. Another manager who’s also excited to see Schlittler is Yankees skipper Aaron Boone, who told the New York Post Schlittler has “been really good.

”He’s exciting. He got some really good opportunities in spring training,” Boone added. “We got to see him a lot . . . [and] he really impressed. He’s come on fast and done a good job and certainly put himself in the mix.”

Schlittler is the second former Husky currently on an MLB roster. along with righty Aaron Civale, now with the White Sox after a June trade from Milwaukee.
