New Bedford native and Tabor Academy graduate Jared Shuster was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft at 25th overall.

Shuster, a junior at Wake Forest, was 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA through four starts in the pandemic-shortened season. He struck out 43 while walking just four through 26.1 innings.

The southpaw entered this year off a strong summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he played for the Orleans Firebirds. He was selected to the league’s All-Star game for going 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA, posting 36 strikeouts and five walks through 33 innings.

Shuster is the seventh first-round pick in Wake Forest history.
