Jenny Dell says she is “blown away by all the love and support” her husband, Will Middlebrooks, has received after the Phillies infielder was carted off the field with a broken leg Saturday.

“Every text is appreciated, every tweet is read!” Dell wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to all who have reached out!! He’s a fighter and I have no doubt that he will come back stronger than ever.”

Middlebrooks was injured during Philadelphia’s spring training game against Baltimore Saturday afternoon. The third baseman collided with teammate Andrew Pullin in the outfield while attempting to catch a fly ball. Phillies manager (and former Red Sox outfielder) Gabe Kapler announced Sunday Middlebrooks had broken his left fibula and potentially suffered ankle damage as well.

His status for the remainder of the season is uncertain.

The 29-year-old expressed his gratitude for “the outpouring of support” via Twitter.

“I just want to take a sec to thank everyone for the outpouring of support,” he wrote. “Really tough time for me, but it will pass. I can’t wait to get back on the field with this squad… There’s definitely something very special happening in our clubhouse.”

Middlebrooks spent the majority of last season in the minor leagues and was hoping to earn a spot in Philadelphia’s lineup in 2018. He played his first three seasons in the majors with the Red Sox.
