Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona turned 58 this weekend — a feat the former Red Sox skipper said some might not have expected.

In addition to the Indians’ win Saturday, Francona celebrated the day with some self-deprecating humor.

Francona has had a history of medical issues, including blood clots and embolisms, dating back to 2001. Health issues also plagued his 2005 season with the Red Sox, following an episode in which he was airlifted from Yankees Stadium to a hospital with chest tightness.

In February, Francona said his health problems would determine how much longer he coaches baseball.

“If I knew I was going to live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself,” he told reporters Saturday, quoting former Yankees great Mickey Mantle.
