Bill Murray joined Anthony Rizzo, David Ross, and Dexter Fowler on SNL to sing ‘Go Cubs, Go’

Ross, a former Red Sox catcher, also performed an encore of his perplexing home run celebration with Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost.

Just days into what will likely be a very long World Series celebration, three Chicago Cubs players and one very big Cubs fan made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Bill Murray, a former SNL cast member and die-hard Cubs fan, joined first basemen Anthony Rizzo, catcher David Ross, and outfielder Dexter Fowler to crash SNL‘s “Weekend Update,” disguised as the winners of the mock news show’s The Voice contest.

“You on the end, you look familiar,” Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost told Murray. “Did you use to work here?”

“I did,” Murray deadpanned. “But that was so many lifetimes ago. Right now, for me, it’s all about our music.”

The quartet then sung a rendition of the Cub’s unofficial anthem, Steve Goodman’s “Go Cubs, Go.”

Ross, a former Red Sox catcher, also performed an encore of his somewhat-infamous home run celebration, much to the distaste of Jost’s fellow Weekend Update anchor, Michael Che.

Speaking of things in questionable taste, Rizzo, Ross, and Fowler also crashed an earlier sketch in which the three Cubs players strip-teased for a grandmother, who has possibly died due a heart attack. The players made their entrance, clad in Cubs-themed stripper attire, just ahead of the 4-minute mark.
