Tom Brady’s resume on the gridiron speaks for itself.
But will the Patriots legend’s greatness translate to the broadcast booth?
Count Colin Cowherd among those expecting a seamless transition for Brady in his first year as Fox Sports’ top NFL analyst.
And while Brady doesn’t have much experience calling games, Cowherd expects Brady’s professional and prepared approach to stand as a welcome contrast to other broadcasters — including former Cowboys QB and current CBS analyst Tony Romo.
“The criticism of (Romo) could be he’s a little loose, sometimes not quite buttoned-up, don’t always feel like he’s completely prepared,” Cowherd said during “The Colin Cowherd Podcast.” “Fair or not, that’s the criticism from media people who monitor this stuff.
Cowherd added: “Brady is very much the opposite. He won’t be predicting plays early and get a lot of attention for that. That’s not his personality, that’s not his style. He will get better over the course of time, and he will be highly conscientious, super prepared. And I think over the course of time, you will appreciate him.”
Fox Sports is hoping that Brady is a natural fit alongside the network’s top play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, considering that Brady signed a reported 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox in May 2022.
Brady later announced he was taking a year off before joining the broadcast booth for the 2024 season, but noted in an interview on “The Pat McAfee Show” last week that he’s looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career.
“Next year I’m going to be calling a Super Bowl for FOX, which is going to be incredible… I’ve been working hard on my FOX broadcast opportunity, which I’m super excited about,” Brady told McAfee. “Spoke to a lot of broadcasters from this entire season, just learning from them, current broadcasters, ones that have done play-by-play, analysis. It’s been really fun.
“I connected with a lot of fun people, I got a lot of great notes. I can probably write a broadcasting playbook at this point. But it’s been something I’ve challenged myself with. And I really look forward to getting on there and calling games for FOX starting in September.”
