Community set to honor Terrence Clarke with gym unveil at Roxbury center
"I want to be that guy for everyone in the city" is highlighted along the sideline.
The Roxbury community will gather Sunday, Nov. 21, to honor the life and lasting legacy of Terrence Clarke with a renovation and unveiling event of the Boston Centers for Youth & Families Vine Street Community Center’s revamped gymnasium.
Clarke, a freshman guard for Kentucky who grew up playing basketball at BCYF Vine Street, died in a car crash this past spring at age 19.
The newly furbished court will feature his symbolic “TC5” logo and will have four hoops plus volleyball equipment and re-installed wall padding.
Clarke’s quote “I want to be that guy for everyone in the city” is displayed along the sideline, and a banner dedicating the court in his honor hangs overhead. A memorial, featuring a wall mural, a locker, and laminated parquet flooring, has been created just inside the club’s entrance.
The city of Boston, the Celtics, the NBA, and New Balance have all collaborated to make the event possible. Clarke’s mother, Osmine Clarke, and select youth members of the community will also attend.

Following the presentation, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Roxbury, youth members in attendance will take part in basketball drills.
