Morning Sports Update: Tom Brady admits playing 10 more years is a ‘bit of a reach’
Tom Brady, who once said he’d try to play in the NFL until he’s 50, admitted that playing 10 more years would be difficult. Danny Ainge throws Larry Bird some shade. And Julian Edelman explains one of his methods for beating defenses.
Danny Ainge explains why Steph Curry is the best shooter of all time: “I think Larry was as good a shooter as I’ve ever seen before Steph. And Ray Allen is up there, too,’ Ainge said. ‘If anybody were to come in and tell me, ‘Larry Bird‘s the best shooter of all time,’ I wouldn’t have much argument. Same with Ray. I probably wouldn’t argue. It’s really close.’’ (WEEI.com)
Julian Edelman uses speed changes to burn defenders: “Like a pitcher who can change the speeds on his fastball, Edelman can be crafty in the way he sets up opposing defenses. On his two jet-sweep carries this season — one that went for nine yards against the Steelers and one that went for 12 yards against the Bills — he’s mixed things up by starting slow and then hitting the accelerator just before the snap.’’ (CSNNE.com)
10 more years for Tom? “That might be a little bit of a reach at this point, but hopefully it’s a lot more than what people would typically predict,’’ Brady said. “A lot of it is … There’s a lot of luck involved. It’s a contact sport, but I try to do my best to take care of myself and put myself in a position where I can rebound from injuries and avoid them as best as possible.’’ (NESN.com)
Comedian Fred Willard thinks Rob Gronkowski would be a great improv performer: “I think Gronk would be superb because I don’t think he thinks too much. I think he just go ahead and be physically funny which audiences would love.’’ (For The Win)
Julian Edelman’s got a new nickname — and he loves it:

Rich Hill has rediscovered his mojo: “I just try and stay in the moment,’’ Hill said. “Each pitch has its moment, so whatever happens the pitch before or after is irrelevant. I am just focusing on the task at hand.’’ (The Boston Herald)
Meet the Jacksonville Jaguars: But this Sunday’s opponent is unfamiliar. The Patriots may be 6-0 all-time against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the regular season and 3-1 in the playoffs, but they haven’t faced these Jaguars. They haven’t played the Jags since December of 2012, and the Jaguars haven’t visited Gillette Stadium since December of 2009.’’ (The Boston Globe)
Boston College coach Steve Addazio is undecided about a starting quarterback: “It’s not like I got an axe to grind. I just really want to watch it,’’ Addazio said. “I’ll watch the tape today and make a decision when I need to. Right now, I don’t really need to. But I’m gathering all the information and taking a look at it. “It’s not like it’s going to be Earth-shattering anyway. Honestly, I think there is a role for both of them.’’ (The Boston Herald)
Jim Harbaugh explains how he thought of Ravens’ version of Patriots trick formations: “I don’t remember when it went into the playbook originally,’’ Harbaugh said. “I thought it was really a well-organized play. Conceptually, it’s something we’ve been talking about for a while. But any way you can move the ball and any way you can find a way to get a guy open — you really strive to do that and it’s hard to do that — and we were able to do that on that play.’’ (CSNNE.com)
