Gronkowski (the horse) experiences a ‘minor setback’
The horse racing world is currently experiencing something Patriots fans know well: They’re waiting for a Gronkowski update.
The 3-year-old colt named for Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had a “minor setback,’’ trainer Jeremy Noseda told The Racing Post Monday, putting his status for the Kentucky Derby in doubt.
“We will know where we are in the next 24 hours,’’ Noseda said.
Gronkowski (the horse) had been set to be shipped to Kentucky over the weekend, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.
The news comes days after Gronkowski (the human) purchased an ownership share in the horse, who qualified for the Derby last month.
“I really can’t think of anything cooler than having a top-class thoroughbred named after me,’’ Gronkowski said on his website gronknation.com, “except maybe having him win the Derby.’’
Hopefully, for Gronkowski supporters, he’ll get the chance. If not, Combatant would replace Gronkowski in the field of 20 horses running in the Derby.
