Matt Parziale 9-over in his first round at the Masters
Brockton firefighter Matt Parziale shot an 81 in the first round of the Masters Thursday.
He bogeyed two of his first three holes, but rebounded with back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes to get back to even. However, he had bogey or worse on eight of his final 13 holes.
Parziale teed off at 8:52 a.m. with Mike Weir and Brendan Steele, and was finished by about 1:45 p.m.
Here’s how he made his way through the course.

Hole 1: Parziale might have been feeling some nerves on the first hole. After a solid approach, he bogeyed the par-four after missing from 11 feet and 3 feet.
Hole 2: Parziale made par on the 575-yard “Pink Dogwood’’ second hole. He was 4 inches from the hole after his fourth shot on the par-5 and tapped in his next shot.

Hole 3: Parziale had another bogey on the par-4 third hole, putting him plus-2 heading to the fourth.

Hole 4: Parziale started to fight his way back, birdieing the 240-yard par-3 fourth hole. A gorgeous approach shot got him 5 feet from the pin, and he drained his second shot.
Hole 5: Parziale pulled even after a good effort on the par-4 “Magnolia’’ fifth hole gave him back-t0-back birdies.

Hole 6: Parziale’s progress was set back by a bogey on the par-3 sixth hole, moving him into a 7-way tie for 14th. It’s still so early most golfers haven’t started yet, and those who have remain clumped together on the leaderboard.
Hole 7:Parziale got caught in the sand and double-bogeyed the par-4 seventh hole, putting him plus-3 heading into the eighth.
Hole 8: He got back on track and made par in five shots on the “Yellow Jasmine’’ eighth hole, using three shots to get to the green and two putts from 12 feet and 3 feet out to finish the job.
Hole 9: Parziale bogeyed the par-4 ninth hole to head onto the back nine at plus-4.
Front nine score: 40
Hole 10: Parziale took three shots to reach the green and bogeyed the par-4 10th hole. He nearly made par with a 17-foot putt, but missed by two feet.
Hole 11: Parziale made par on “White Dogwood,’’ the 505-yard par-4. His two approach shots were on target, but he needed two putts.
Hole 12: A penalty for landing in the water was costly on the par-3 12th, which Parziale double-bogeyed.
Hole 13: Parziale stayed out of trouble and parred the gorgeous “Azalea’’ par-5.
Hole 14: He then bogeyed the 14th hole, a par-4, putting him at plus-8 heading into the final four holes.
Hole 15: A clean approach helped Parziale par the 505-yard 15th, a par-5.
Hole 16: Parziale found himself in the water after an errant first shot on the par-4 “Redbud’’ hole and needed an 18-foot putt to salvage bogey.
Hole 17: Parziale recovered from misplays into the woods and a sand trap for a par 4 on the “Nandina’’ hole.
Hole 18: A double bogey on the final hole sent Parzile to the clubhouse at plus-9 with a total score of 81.
Back nine score: 41.
