In his first spring as Boston College’s head football coach, Bill O’Brien has had a steady stream of notable names swing by practice.

That list includes Dan Koppen, Ernie Adams, and Brian Hoyer, to name a few.

On Saturday, three more celebrities with local ties joined the list: Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla, former Eagle and NFL star quarterback Matt Ryan, and BC Hall of Fame offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus.

Both Mazzulla and Ryan addressed the team and shared some words of wisdom.

Ryan met with the quarterbacks, including projected starter Thomas Castellanos.

O’Brien said it was “awesome” to have them and that he really appreciates them carving out time.

“Matt Ryan spoke to the team this morning,” O’Brien told reporters. “He had a great message. He’s a legendary player here at Boston College, and a great pro football player, former MVP. I think he’s probably got a chance to be in the Hall of Fame someday. Just a great guy.”

He said Mazzulla also made a visit when O’Brien was with the Patriots, and it appears the two have developed a rapport.

“Coaching the best team in the NBA right now,” O’Brien told reporters. “His message to the team at the end, about his mind-set and consistency, day in and day out, of being at your best, was really good.”

Boston College’s spring game is set for Saturday, April 13, at noon.
