Parker Byrd made history Friday night, becoming the first person to play in a Division 1 baseball game with a prosthetic leg.
Byrd, a sophomore for East Carolina University, had his right leg amputated following a horrific boating accident in July 2022. He required 22 surgeries in 45 days, but after an arduous journey, he made his long-awaited, triumphant return.
He received a standing ovation from the home crowd, then drew a walk and ran to first before exiting the game.
True resilience 👏

He celebrated with his family and leaped into the stands to commemorate the occasion. Byrd earned a SportsCenter segment Saturday morning.
Byrd, who was also featured in a Super Bowl ad for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, is using his experience to inspire others.
