Former Boston College, Celtics guard Dana Barros joins Eagles as consultant

Dana Barros, who starred for the Boston College men’s hoops team in the late-1980s, is rejoining the program as a consultant.

The Mattapan native Barros, who also played at Xaverian High School and for the Celtics, will assist in alumni engagement, work as a media ambassador, and advise the athletic department as it launches a men’s basketball player mentorship program, among other tasks.

Barros, 54, said in a release Friday that he’s excited for the opportunity.

“I look forward to working with head coach Earl Grant and the Boston College Athletics Department to establish a new culture, help build an alumni presence, and support – and be the foundation for – that process,” Barros said.

Director of Athletics Pat Kraft said he expects everyone to benefit from Barros’s knowledge, insight, and ties to the area.

Grant, who in his first year has helped Boston College start the season 5-3, said he believes it’s very important to connect current and former players.

“Dana is a BC legend and he is excited about the growth of the program,” Grant said. “We are excited to have Dana’s involvement and energy as we work to move the program forward.”

The Eagles are on the hunt for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. They made it every year but one from 2004-2009.
