Boston College football lands explosive Ohio State transfer Jaelen Gill
He can contribute at both wide receiver and running back and is a versatile athlete.
Jeff Hafley hasn’t coached a game for Boston College yet, but he’s already made his presence felt.
Hafley and his staff’s latest triumph is landing Jaelen Gill, a dynamic Ohio State transfer who was once a 4-star prospect in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player in Ohio. On Tuesday, Gill announced his decision to join the Eagles and play for Hafley, who most recently coached for Ohio State before earning his first head-coaching role.
Gill, who was initially recruited to perennial powerhouses such as USC, Michigan, and Oklahoma, was a consensus top 50 prospect coming out of high school before choosing Ohio State. He can contribute at both wide receiver and running back, and his versatility allows for some creativity and ingenuity from the coaching staff.

He redshirted to start his college career, switched from running back to wide receiver, and was buried on the H-back depth chart in 2019. Last year with Ohio State, Gill finished with six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Gill announced in late April that he would transfer, and a few weeks later he shared his destination. The move is particularly significant because it shows once again that Hafley’s name and reputation influence more than just the defensive side of the ball.

While nothing is official yet, reports indicate that the redshirt sophomore Gill will sit out one year and have two years of eligibility remaining. Time will tell how the offense develops, but the potential 1-2 combo of Notre Dame transfer quarterback Phil Jurkovec and Gill has the chance to give Boston College significant firepower in the passing game going forward.
