Jim Calhoun’s new team got a radio deal with a familiar voice

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The University of Saint Joseph, the tiny DIII school in Connecticut that hired Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun to coach its new men’s basketball team, has announced a deal that will have its home games broadcast on a 50,000-watt Hartford radio station.

The school and Entercom announced a one-year contract Thursday to broadcast home games on WTIC-AM, which until this season served as the broadcast home for the University of Connecticut.

Joe D’Ambrosio, the former radio voice of the UConn Huskies, will provide the play-by-play.

The games also will be available nationally on the on the Radio.com app.

Calhoun, who led UConn to three national championships during 26 seasons at that school, will return to the sidelines with a career record of 873-380 when the Blue Jays open the season on Nov. 9 against William Paterson University.
