The Boston College football team will honor local legend Doug Flutie by wearing throwback uniforms in Saturday’s game against Louisville at Alumni Stadium.

In the 1980s, Flutie helped resurrect a dormant BC program, leading the Eagles to a 10-2 record and a Cotton Bowl win in 1984. He famously executed a Hail Mary pass to defeat Miami that year, and earned the Heisman Trophy.

“To say anything is the ‘Doug Flutie Era’ is very flattering, and I’m sure Doug would agree,’’ said Flutie’s brother, Darren Flutie, who played at BC from 1984-87.

“From my perspective, seeing what BC went through in the late ’70s, going 0-11 one year, the early ’80s really was a special era. It was BC coming to prominence as a D-1 football team and beating teams like Texas A&M, Alabama, Clemson.

“Now they play those teams regularly, but back then we didn’t think it was possible.’’

This will be the second time BC wears throwback uniforms to honor Flutie. In 2015, the Eagles showcased throwback road jerseys for the Shamrock Series game against Notre Dame at Fenway Park.

On Saturday, the Eagles will be sporting home maroon-and-gold uniforms designed by UnderArmour to re-create what the team wore from 1981-84.
