While the Red Sox‘ playoff run didn’t go as hoped, that didn’t prevent a pair of their best players from receiving a top honor.

Star pitchers Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman were both named to the All-MLB first team Thursday night.

The two lefties are the first Red Sox pitchers to earn All-MLB honors since it began in 2019. Chapman was also awarded the 2025 Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year, with Crochet finishing second in AL Cy Young voting.

After being traded to the Sox back in April, Crochet made sure they didn’t regret it. He finished the year with an 18-5 record and a 2.59 ERA, as well as holding the Yankees to just one run in his sole playoff outing.

Crochet’s stamina sets him apart from most, as he finished second in the MLB in innings pitched and he led the league in strikeouts with 255. He is just the fifth Red Sox pitcher to total at least 250 strikeouts in a single season.

While this wasn’t enough to propel him above Detroit’s Tarik Skubal for the Cy Young, Crochet is still able to celebrate this All-MLB selection with his newborn daughter, Colette.

With Crochet heading the Sox starting pitchers, Chapman was trusted to close out many games, totaling 32 saves on the year.

Along with these saves, Chapman ended with a 5-3 record and a 1.17 ERA in his 67 games.

On his way to this All-MLB pick and his eighth career All-Star appearance, Chapman starred during the summer months. In a stretch between July 26-Sept. 7, Chapman set a franchise record with 17 straight hitless appearances in 14.2 innings pitched.

The two of them have a good connection as well, with Crochet knowing the Red Sox are at their best when games feature them both.

“‘Tomorrow you’re going to make one call to the bullpen’,” manager Alex Cora remembers Crochet telling him before game 1 against the Yankees. “I said ‘maybe two,’ and he’s like ‘no, no, no. One. It’s going to be straight to Chappy’.”

The Red Sox will be hoping their two aces continue this form going into next season, as they are both under contract with Boston for 2026 as well.
