The Red Sox postseason series against the Yankees could be determined by rookie pitching, as Boston will have multiple first-year hurlers on the team’s roster for the wild-card series.
The roster for the first round of the playoffs was announced by the Red Sox on Tuesday morning. Rookie pitchers Payton Tolle and Connelly Early were both included. As was announced on Monday by manager Alex Cora, veteran starter Lucas Giolito was left off the roster due to elbow soreness.
Early, who is 1-2 with a 2.33 ERA in four starts since being called up to the majors, is a candidate to start a potential Game 3 of the series should it go that far. Kyle Harrison, one of the players the Red Sox acquired in the Rafael Devers trade earlier in 2025, is another potential Game 3 starter.
Here’s a look at the whole roster:
Pitchers: Brayan Bello, Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Crochet, Connelly Early, Kyle Harrison, Zack Kelly, Steven Matz, Justin Slaten, Payton Tolle, Greg Weissert, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Wilson.
Catchers: Carlos Narváez, Connor Wong.
Infielders: Alex Bregman, David Hamilton, Nathaniel Lowe, Trevor Story.
Outfielders: Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, Rob Refsnyder, Masataka Yoshida.
Infielders/Outfielders: Nate Eaton, Romy Gonzalez, Ceddanne Rafaela, Nick Sogard.
