‘Roman reigns supreme in Gotham’: Listen to the Red Sox radio call of Roman Anthony’s HR vs. Yankees
"A signature moment for Anthony."
Red Sox fans were treated to a win over the rival Yankees on Thursday night, punctuated by a home run from the team’s rising star, Roman Anthony.
The moment was emphatically captured by the WEEI radio call. After Anthony, Boston’s 21-year-old rookie outfielder, turned on a ninth-inning high fastball from Yankees reliever Yerry De Los Santos, WEEI play-by-play announcer Will Flemming met the moment in style.
“Roman drives one high, and deep, and gone!” Flemming bellowed as fellow commentator Lou Merloni laughed jovially in the background. “Roman reigns supreme in Gotham! That is a hit with runners in scoring position, a signature moment for Anthony, and it is 6-3 Red Sox.”
Anthony’s two-run blast gave Boston some breathing room in what had been a 4-3 ballgame. The team’s struggles hitting with runners in scoring position was jokingly alluded to by Merloni seconds before the talented Red Sox rookie swatted his home run.

Prior to that, Boston was 2-for-18 in the game with runners in scoring position. But with one swing of the bat, Anthony provided some much needed insurance.
Having made his MLB debut earlier in 2025 against the Yankees, Anthony noted after the game that he felt much more prepared to face New York this time around.
“It’s exciting to be here,’ Anthony told reporters afterward. “I got to play them at home my first week, and now that I’m settled in and through that first week — this time around I felt a little more calm, more controlled.”

The highly-touted rookie is currently batting .286 with a .405 OBP. The home run was the fifth of his career so far (a total achieved in 59 games).
With the win, the Red Sox (69-59) moved within half a game of the Yankees (69-58) in the standings with three games remaining in the current series. Both teams are currently in American League wild card spots.
