Red Sox’ Jarren Duran not concerned with trade deadline rumors, calling it one of the few things he doesn’t stress over

"If it happens, it happens, but it’s just all rumors for now, so I’m just gonna keep having fun with my boys."

Jarren Duran has been at the center of trade rumors and speculation in recent weeks.

The trade rumors surrounding Jarren Duran have persisted with the deadline approaching, but he’s not sweating over them.

Duran admitted that he hasn’t kept tabs on the recent rumors involving him following the Red Sox’ 4-2 win over the Dodgers on Saturday. In fact, Duran has tuned out trade deadline talk to the point that he had to ask reporters when deadline day is.

“Honestly, that’s probably one of the things I actually don’t stress about,” Duran told reporters when asked how he felt about being involved in trade rumors. “I have no control over it. So if it happens, it happens. But I don’t have social media like Twitter and stuff like that. So I never kind of see any of that stuff.

“My dad always keeps me on my toes and shoots one over to me every once in a while, like I’m not going to tell him [if a trade] happens. He’s all like, ‘Did this happen?’ … If it happens, it happens, but it’s just all rumors for now, so I’m just gonna keep having fun with my boys.”

Duran has commonly been speculated to be the odd man out in the Red Sox’ long-term outfield plans. However, multiple recent reports have indicated that Duran will remain in Boston beyond Thursday’s trade deadline. The Red Sox recently turned down an offer from the Padres involving pitcher Dylan Cease, MassLive’s Sean McAdam reported, although The Boston Globe‘s Alex Speier later reported that such an offer was never made.

Additionally, USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale reported that the Red Sox have no plans to trade Duan prior to Thursday’s deadline.

While it appears Duran will remain in Boston for the rest of the 2025 season, his future with the Red Sox beyond that still seems to be murky. Boston is still “likely” to move Duran at some point. Duran has three years of team control following the 2025 season, but at 29, he’s the oldest member of the Red Sox’ regular starters in the outfield.

For now, Duran is focused on the present, but doesn’t have a strong preference for how the team handles the trade deadline.

“If they add, awesome. If they don’t, awesome,” Duran said. “We love the team we have, and we’re just gonna roll with what we got. There’s nothing we can control. We just gotta trust whatever they do is the best for the team.”

The Red Sox have positioned themselves to be buyers ahead of the trade deadline. They enter Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers sitting at 56-50, holding the last wild card spot by a half-game.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has said multiple times that the team intends to add in a meaningful way before Thursday. They’ve been mostly linked to starting pitchers and first basemen as they seek to round out the roster and fill those two areas of need.

Trading Duran would also run counterintuitive to the Red Sox’ buyer’s approach. Even if Duran might be the odd man out in the long haul, he’s still been productive this year. He’s hitting .259 with a .768 OPS, nine home runs, and 55 RBIs. He also hit for two triples on Saturday, giving him an AL-leading 12 on the season.

Duran’s resurgence at the plate in July is just one of a handful of reasons why the Red Sox were able to turn their season around following a rough end to June. The recent run has also led to a belief within the Red Sox’ clubhouse that they can make a deep playoff run, according to Duran.

“I love this team,” Duran said. “Personally, I feel like we do it all. We can hit homers. We can run. We’re athletic. We’re young. And the best part about us being so young is if we lose the hard game, we’re laughing and joking, flushing it, and we’re ready to move on to the next game.”
