Red Sox prospect nicknamed ‘The Password’ became a ‘Jeopardy!’ clue
"It’s something many use every day to unlock things online & the nickname of Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon Garcia.”
The Red Sox have made plenty of headlines this season when it comes to their blue-chip prospects in Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, and Roman Anthony.
But another youngster in Boston’s minor-league system already made the rounds on the national TV circuit this week — due to his unique (and hard-to-spell) name.
During Monday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” a clue read: “It’s something many use every day to unlock things online & the nickname of Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon Garcia.”
The answer was “password” — referencing Garcia’s creative nickname of “The Password.”
One contestant, Miles Tepper, successfully answered host Ken Jennings’ prompt for $400.
Garcia earned his moniker “The Password” due to his unique first name — which features a steady stream of consonants.
Beyond his catchy nickname, Garcia is seeing his stock rise this season on a Red Sox farm system experiencing plenty of turnover at the top with Campbell, Mayer, (and potentially) Anthony all moving on from the minor leagues this summer.
Garcia — a 22-year-old outfielder from Venezuela — has impressed since getting called up to Triple-A Worcester last week. Entering Wednesday, Garcia is batting .417 (10-for-24) with two homers, five doubles and a 1.148 OPS over six games. Prior to his promotion, Garcia was batting .256 with three homers, 17 RBIs and a .748 OPS in 33 games at Double-A Portland this spring.
Garica’s — who is tabbed by SoxProspects.com as Boston’s 13th-ranked prospect — first name might be daunting to spell out.
But Portland did Red Sox fans a favor by including an audio clip of Garcia pronouncing his first name, which can be broken down as “Yos-TIN-son.”
