The Red Sox on Sunday added another arm, acquiring minor league righthander Joe Vogatsky from the Pirates in exchange for utility player Enmanuel Valdez.

Pittsburgh selected Vogatsky, 22, in the 19th round of the 2024 draft out of James Madison University, where he played for four seasons. He pitched out of the bullpen in the final two seasons of his college career, going a combined 7-3 with 14 saves, a 3.43 ERA, and 84 strikeouts.

Valdez made his Major League debut with the Red Sox in April 2023 and appeared in 125 Major League games in the last two seasons, hitting .235 with 20 doubles and 12 home runs. The Red Sox acquired Valdez in the 2022 trade that sent catcher Christian Vazquez to the Astros.

The Sox already added a starting pitcher this offseason, dealing for White Sox ace Garrett Crochet last week.
