Boston selected David Ortiz’s son, D’Angelo, on Tuesday with their 19th-round pick (567th overall) in the 2024 MLB Draft.

D’Angelo Ortiz, 20, is a third baseman/outfielder who last played for Miami Dade Community College in Kendall, Florida.

A 6-foot-1, right-handed hitter, Ortiz appeared in 51 games for Miami Dade CC last season, batting .377 with one home run, seven doubles, and 35 RBI.

The younger Ortiz has been around the Red Sox for most of his childhood. He was born a little over three months before his father and the 2004 Red Sox erased an 86-year championship drought. He later attended high school at at Westminster Christian in Palmetto Bay, Florida.

Ortiz is no stranger to playing baseball up in the Boston area, however. In two of the last three summers, Ortiz has played for the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate League, batting .311 with seven RBI and four stolen bases over 11 games so far this season.

During the 2022 season with Brockton, D’Angelo played on the same Rox squad with the sons of former Red Sox stars Manny Ramirez, Pedro Martinez, and Keith Foulke. Now, Ortiz will get the opportunity to follow his father’s path on the road to Fenway Park.
