Ceddanne Rafaela makes Red Sox Opening Day roster
"Everything we asked him to do in the offseason, he did."
Red Sox fans can expect to see a lot of Ceddanne Rafaela this season.
Manager Alex Cora confirmed Saturday that Rafaela has made the Opening Day roster.
Rafaela, a 23-year-old outfielder/infielder from Curacao, hit .241 with two homers and five RBIs in 28 games with Boston last year. It appears the Red Sox liked what they saw, plus what he’s done since.
“Everything we asked him to do in the offseason, he did,” Cora told reporters. “Everything we asked him to do in spring training, he did. He’s very dynamic, athletic, versatile.”
Cora said Rafaela will get “a lot of at-bats” and will play center field most of the time.
“He’s very dynamic, athletic, versatile, and he’s a good kid, too,” Cora said.
The Red Sox open the season Thursday, March 28, at Seattle.
