Morning sports update: Dustin Pedroia narrated a hype video for the 2021 Red Sox
"It's going to be a good season."
After Thursday’s scheduled opener was rained out, the Red Sox are set to open the 2021 season at Fenway Park today against the Orioles at 2:10 p.m.
The Bruins lost to the Penguins on Thursday, 4-1. Boston get a chance at a rematch on Saturday at 1 p.m.
And the Celtics face the Rockets at TD Garden today at 7:30 p.m.
Dustin Pedroia’s Red Sox hype video: The Red Sox open a new season on Friday, but will be doing so without recently retired Dustin Pedroia. The former second baseman missed considerable time over the previous three seasons due to injuries, and formally called time on his career earlier in 2021.
Though his playing days are over, Pedroia noted in his retirement announcement that he would want to remain “involved” with baseball and the Red Sox in some capacity.
Fans got a glimpse at what that might mean when the team tweeted a 2021 hype video on Friday morning with Pedroia as its narrator.
“Everything should be important to you,” Pedroia says in the video’s opening. “You should be the best at whatever job that you want to do.”
“This game doesn’t last forever, guys,” Pedroia notes. “It can get taken away from you tomorrow. You’ve got to take pride in everything, try to be the best in everything. Good luck. It’s going to be a good season.”

On this day: In 1969, the Bruins got a first playoff win in a decade. Boston did so in style, destroying the Maple Leafs 10-0 in Game 1 of what turned into a quarterfinal sweep of Toronto.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, the physicality of the game left Bobby Orr hospitalized. A hard check from Maple Leafs defenseman Pat Quinn sent Orr to an overnight stay at Massachusetts General Hospital. Boston’s star still managed to play in the rest of the series, but the tone of a budding rivalry was set.
Daily highlight: In the best play from Opening Day, Didi Gregorius made an over the shoulder catch by trapping the ball on his chest in a 3-2 Phillies win over the Braves.
