Bill Simmons experienced a range of emotions during Ian Kinsler’s eventful base running
"Kinsler definitely isn’t drunk but this is also what it would be like if he was drunk."
As Red Sox fans agonized over the base running of Ian Kinsler during the top of the 10th inning in Game 3 of the World Series, much of their sentiment was summarized by a notable Boston sports fan.
Media personality Bill Simmons, who gained notoriety in the late ’90s as the “Boston Sports Guy,” tweeted his thoughts on Kinsler’s pinch-running experience.
After nearly getting picked off first base, Kinsler came excruciatingly close to over-running third base. He was then thrown out at home by Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger:

Simmons, like much of Red Sox Nation, went through a range of emotions:
Kinsler definitely isn’t drunk but this is also what it would be like if he was drunk.

Kinsler careened around the bases like an 18 month old in a bouncy castle. That was a legendary WTF performance. Unbelievable.

Simmons’s take on the out at home was that the Fox announcers missed a talking point about Kinsler’s approach:
I love how Buck and Smoltz are completely ignoring that Kinsler scores on that play if he bowls over the catcher or does even a half decent headfirst slide. That throw was 6 feet off.

The inning-ending double play sent that game into a protracted extra-inning struggle.
