Red Sox place Chris Sale on 10-day disabled list
Dave Dombrowski said he is hopeful Sale will only miss one start.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that starting pitcher Chris Sale has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. The 29-year-old All-Star has “mild” inflammation in his left shoulder, according to the team.
The #RedSox today placed LHP Chris Sale on the 10-day disabled list with mild left shoulder inflammation, retroactive to July 28. To fill Sale’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Sale was scheduled to start against the Yankees at Fenway Park on Thursday. Left-hander Brian Johnson is now set to pitch instead. To replace Sale on the active roster, the Red Sox recalled pitcher Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.
In 2018, Sale is 11-4 with a 2.04 ERA. He currently leads the major leagues in strikeouts with 207.
According to President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, the team is hopeful that Sale will return to face the Blue Jays in his next scheduled start after missing the Yankees game.
