J.D. Martinez: ‘At Fenway, every night is like Monday Night Football’
The Red Sox were finally able to hold J.D. Martinez’s press conference on Monday, and it did not take long for the question to be asked of why the process took so long.
“Any time you do something like this, you’re very thorough with all of your conversations,’’ said Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski. “At this time of year, everybody’s not at one place for your physical, so J.D. actually did fly to Boston at one time to be checked out there because we just didn’t have all the doctors here that we needed to.
“Then it was a matter for us to complete the language of the contract, to protect all sides, which isn’t always easily done. There was a lot of people that worked on that.’’
Martinez said he was excited for the task at hand, and to join the Red Sox lineup.
“It’s a strong lineup, it’s a good lineup,’’ said Martinez. “They’ve got guys with a lot of speed, guys that can get on base, guys that can really move around the bags and produce runs very quickly. I’m happy to be a part of that now.’’
More to come.
