The death of retired pitcher Roy Halladay understandably shook the sports world Tuesday.

The widely liked and admired former Blue Jay and Phillie — the author of a perfect game and the second postseason no-hitter in history, a two-time Cy Young winner, and an eight-time All-Star — died when his private plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. He was 40 years old.

Several former and current Red Sox players mourned Halladay’s death on social media, including fellow Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez.

Halladay started 39 games against the Red Sox and appeared in 42 games against them, compiling a 14-15 record with a 4.39 ERA.
