Alex Cora has reportedly already agreed to take the Red Sox manager job
Behinds the scenes, it might already be a done deal.
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, former Red Sox infielder and Houston Astros bench coach Alex Cora has agreed to return to Boston to manage his old team, succeeding recently fired manager John Farrell.

Rosenthal reported Saturday that Cora will take the job after the World Series-bound Astros finish the season. According to The Boston Globe‘s Peter Abraham, Cora wanted to delay the announcement “out of respect for Astros manager A.J. Hinch and the Houston players.”
“The 42-year-old Cora is expected to be named manager sometime in the next two days,” Abraham reported Saturday, prior to the Astros’ ALCS Game 7 win.
The Red Sox also interviewed Diamondbacks bench coach Ron Gardenhire and former Tigers manager Brad Ausmus (again) for the position. But according to Abraham, Cora was always considered the frontrunner.
