Through two innings of baseball on Sunday, Game 3 of Boston’s ALDS series already appeared to be following the same pattern of their previous two losses. Not only had the Astros once again scored in the first, but starting pitcher Doug Fister was also pulled from the game after securing just four outs.

Things appeared to be only be getting worse, as runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by reliever Joe Kelly in the second. During the next at-bat, Houston’s Josh Reddick launched an 87.8 mph slider deep into right field. Certainly headed over the wall, the ball looked as though it would merely fuel the Red Sox’ nightmare.

Not so fast.

Right fielder Mookie Betts made an incredible catch at the wall to rob Reddick of the three-run homer and end the top of the inning, preventing what would have been a 6-0 deficit.

To finish the second, Boston proceeded to load the bases and drive home a run — cutting the Astros’ lead to 3-1. During the third, the team strung together a three-run inning that was capped by Rafael Devers’ go-ahead homer.
