Jerry Remy releases statement on his cancer battle: ‘I plan to keep fighting this thing’
Red Sox color commentator Jerry Remy shared an update on his health Wednesday morning. The 64-year-old—who revealed in June that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer for the fifth time—announced that he will begin chemotherapy treatments at the end of August.
He posted his statement on Facebook:
I’m still recovering from the lung cancer surgery I had back in June and will soon enter the next stage of my cancer treatment. I’ve met with my doctors and I’ll start receiving chemotherapy treatments late this month. I have some difficult challenges in front of me, but I plan to keep fighting this thing. I’d like to thank everybody for their many thoughts and prayers and continued support.

Following his diagnosis, Remy originally had hoped to make his return to the booth after the All-Star break.
