Pitcher David Price’s feud with NESN broadcaster Dennis Eckersley has garnered plenty of attention from the media, fans, and his current teammates, but former Red Sox players are also starting to weigh in on the contentious situation.
On Sunday, David Ortiz suggested that Price should apologize if that would allow for everyone involved to move on. Seeing as though the leftie appears to have no intentions of doing so, Price might want to heed the advice from one of Ortiz’s teammates instead.
“The healing of all wounds is winning,” two-time World Series champion Kevin Youkilis told WEEI’s Rob Bradford and Evan Drellich.
Youkilis admitted that while he has heard about the recent drama, he doesn’t like to comment on things when he doesn’t have firsthand knowledge “because there’s a lot of speculation and a lot of hearsay.” But the retired infielder is positive about one thing: “You go out and you win ball games, people don’t care anymore.”
“The key is honestly winning,” he insisted. “People will love you here if you win.”
On Friday, the Red Sox announced that Price would be returning to the 10-day disabled list for inflammation in his left elbow, and the date of his next start is still to be determined. The 31-year-old is currently 5-3 on the season, with a 3.82 ERA.
