Behold the glory of Brian Johnson (and reporter Guerin Austin) getting doused after his first shutout
"Today was pretty cool."
Following his sparkling Red Sox starting debut Saturday, pitcher Brian Johnson received the team’s customary form of congratulations — multiplied by two.

The double bath of sports drink came courtesy of Christian Vazquez and Hanley Ramirez, the latter of whom became particularly familiar with the postgame celebration last season. In one fan video, Vazquez and Ramirez can be seen sneaking up behind Johnson to deliver the drenching.

The 26-year-old lefty threw a complete-game shutout, giving up just five singles and striking out eight in the 6-0 win against the Mariners.
“Today was pretty cool,” he told reporters after the game.
Incidentally, the day was also pretty cool (in a more literal sense) for Red Sox sideline reporter Guerin Austin, who — along with her suede boots and not for the first time — was an innocent victim of the flying sports drink.

Johnson became the first Red Sox pitcher since Pedro Martinez in 1998 to record a complete-game shutout in his first ever start at Fenway Park. Austin tweeted after the game that being present to his accomplishment was “worth driving home soaked.”
