David Price’s return could be key to Red Sox’ season
It’s hard for some people to get what I‘m about to write, but I’m going to be Captain Obvious here and indicate that David Price’s presence in the Red Sox rotation is sorely missed.
I’m not sure the Sox truly knew how much they would miss him. After all, they had five other starting pitchers. Remember those days in spring training when we wondered which of the six after Price, Chris Sale, and Rick Porcello might be the odd man out? We never expected the news on Price’s forearm and elbow to have been so ominous.
The first thing that comes to mind is Tommy John surgery. And one has to wonder if he’s out of the woods on that front, considering the snail’s pace the Red Sox have allowed him to proceed in his throwing program.
Price didn’t have one of his best seasons in 2016, and that’s hard to write considering he went 17-9 with a 3.99 ERA, led the league in innings pitched, and had more strikeouts than any Red Sox lefty in the history of the franchise.
