The Red Sox and Make-A-Wish Foundation transformed a Connecticut boy’s backyard into Fenway Park
"I don't have to think, 'Is that supposed to be Fenway Park?' I know it's Fenway Park."
The Pawtucket Red Sox may have plans to build a replica of Fenway Park, but the Make-A-Wish Foundation is already way ahead of the minor league team.
Collaborating with the Boston Red Sox, the foundation built a model of the famous stadium right in backyard of 10-year-old Thomas Hastings.
Hastings is baseball fanatic and more-than-avid Sox fan, but his health conditions have prevented him from getting to play the game that he loves. Born with scoliosis, Hasting has undergone 14 back surgeries as a result of the curvature of his spine, and doctors also diagnosed him with muscular dystrophy right after his first birthday.
So when the Make-A-Wish Foundation told the Connecticut boy he could have anything he wanted, the answer was easy: a baseball field in his own backyard.
37 days later, “Fantasy Fenway” was up and running. Built at a 25-percent-scale of the real Fenway Park, the backyard stadium features iconic Red Sox landmarks like the Pesky Pole, Citgo sign, and Green Monster.
As Hastings puts it, “I don’t have to think, ‘Is that supposed to be Fenway Park?’ I know it’s Fenway Park.”
