David Ortiz writes farewell note to Red Sox Nation: ‘Never forget what we did’
David Ortiz doesn’t want the result of his final game taint Red Sox fans’ memories of everything the team accomplished.
“Well, wasn’t the way we planned it, but I wouldn’t give up this team or this season for the world,” wrote the retiring Red Sox legend in a statement posted on social media Wednesday.

In the post—two days after his 20th and final season came to an end—Ortiz told Red Sox fans “to never forget what we did” and to look ahead to the team’s bright future: “Do not be upset, instead smile, the future is bright with all these young studs!!!”
“I may not be in uniform anymore, but these teams were never bout one guy,” wrote the three-time World Series champion, later adding, “I will always be a part of Red Sox Nation.”
Indeed. He has a standing job offer here too if he wants it.
