Did Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi just make the catch of the year?

Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi is showing Boston that he’s ready for the majors this week.
A day after Benintendi hit the first home run of his career, the outfielder made a sensational catch during Monday night’s game against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
With no outs in the bottom of the eighth, Rays right fielder Steven Souza Jr. hit a fly ball to left field for what looked like a two-run home run with his team down 3-0 at the time. But Benintendi had other plans. He leapt over the wall to deny Souza the homer.

‘‘I think that’s the best catch I’ve made. I’ve never really had the opportunity to do that,’’ Benintendi said after the game, according to the Associated Press. ‘‘I knew that it was going to go out. I was just trying to time it and I was fortunate enough to finish with it.’’
Benintendi’s successful plays come roughly three weeks after his first big league game.
The Red Sox called up the 22-year-old Benintendi from the Portland Sea Dogs at the beginning of the month. He’s batting .306.

The Red Sox went on to win the game 6-2.
