Red Sox fans chanted ‘We want A-Rod’ during Tuesday’s game

Yes, you read that right.

Since Alex Rodriguez joined the Yankees in 2004, it seemed unlikely there would ever come a day when Sox fans cheered for A-Rod.

That day finally came Tuesday, when the Sox and Yankees faced off in Boston just days after the Yankees announced A-Rod’s career would end at the end of the week in New York:

Yankees manager Joe Girardi elected to leave Rodriguez on the bench, and the Fenway faithful left without a sight of their most hated foe.

While A-Rod has been a foil for the Sox for years – doing everything from fighting Jason Varitek to slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo’s glove – Boston fans can’t be blamed for wanting one last chance to say goodbye. He’s been a player you love to hate.
