David Ortiz’s message of unity: ‘Choose love’
'Let's be kind to each other'
The words “We Are One” were displayed on the video board at Fenway Park before Tuesday’s Red Sox-Giants game. Hours after a police officer was killed in a drive-by shooting in Kansas, and one day after a Police shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, local police officers, civic leaders, and clergy filed onto the field for a moment of silence.
Afterward, David Ortiz stepped up to the microphone.

Here’s a stunning photo from the scene.

Before the game, the teams lined up along the baselines for a ceremony promoting racial harmony. Members of the Boston Police Department as well as civic leaders and clergy, and local youngsters lined up behind David Ortiz.
