Jonny Gomes hurt to be excluded from Royals’ White House visit
"This is probably the worst news of my professional baseball career," Gomes said Sunday.
Jonny Gomes will not be attending the Royals’ World Series celebrations at the White House. And he seems displeased.
“I’ve been sent down. I’ve been non-tendered, whatever,” Gomes told FoxSports.com on Sunday. “But this is probably the worst news of my professional baseball career.”
Gomes attended the White House after the Red Sox’ 2013 World Series win. He sported an American flag-themed blazer to the visit. It’s not Gomes’s only notable patriotic act in recent history, as he waved an American flag during a passionate speech after the Royals’ World Series win.
According to FoxSports.com, the Royals said they would only invite players who played the entire 2015 season or were rostered at the start of the post season. Gomes checks neither of those boxes.
“We’re a very inclusive organization. We recognize the great efforts of all of our people who contributed,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore told FoxSports.com. “I wish everyone could be a part of this. Unfortunately, there is a limit on the travel party, and it’s somewhat restrictive.”
