Ortiz, perennially one of the top hitters in baseball, is having incredible season at age 40 – leading the Red Sox in batting average, home runs and runs batted in – in what he says will be his final season.
Ortiz is the oldest player on the list by a wide margin (Molina is the second oldest at 33), with the average age of the other nine players just under 27 years old. Four of the top ten (Bryant, Trout, Harper, and Syndergaard) are 24 or younger. There’s a new wave of young players becoming the faces of MLB, but for now, Ortiz reigns supreme.
