Yankees are Connecticut’s favorite baseball team
And the gap is getting wider
The Red Sox currently lead the New York Yankees by 5 1/2 games in the American League East, but the Bronx Bombers remain on top as Connecticut’s favorite baseball team.
According to Quinnipiac University’s 14th Annual Connecticut Baseball Poll, Yankees fans outnumber Red Sox fans 44 percent to 36 percent in The Constitution State. The eight point difference is New York’s largest lead over Boston since 2005.
However, the Red Sox rule in Hartford County (50 percent to 37 percent) and in the Tolland, Windham and New London Counties (54 percent to 37 percent).
The New York Mets come in at third following their run to the World Series last season, surging up to 13 percent in the poll, doubling last year’s score.
“The surprise in this year’s Baseball Poll is the Mets, who may be getting a boost from their World Series appearance last year,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD. “The Yankees certainly aren’t making it easy, but Connecticut baseball fans are proving they are loyal through thick and thin.”
