In the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, the Red Sox drafted shortstop Nick Lovullo, son of Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo. Nick is a graduating senior captain at Holy Cross.

“I couldn’t be more proud of him,” Torey said after the Sox’ 15-4 rout of the Twins on Saturday, via ESPN.com. “It’s one of those moments where you sit back as a father, just you appreciate all the hard work that he’s put in, all the sacrifice that he’s made over the years. It comes full circle when you hear his name called.”

After getting drafted by the Red Sox in the 34th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Nick decided to return to Holy Cross to get his college degree. He’s a double major in political science and history.

“Last year, I could go back to school and there were a lot of options to weigh,” said Nick, via MLB.com. “That’s why this year with no more school, I could be fully invested in the Draft, and that was my ultimate goal. To hear my name today and to get a couple of phone calls from people working there, it was like a dream come true. I’m beyond blessed and lucky to be able to play for the best organization in baseball.”
